As utilities look for ways to get consumers engaged in the smart grid, Reliant Energy in Texas has come up with a program that ought to at least get some attention. The utility is running a smart home makeover sweepstakes to promote services and technologies. Two Texas households will win a $10,000 package that will give them the latest in home automation and energy-saving tools and technologies (a flat-panel TV and iPad among them).
Quick Take: We’ve said before that we need to add a little gee-whiz excitement to get consumers on-board with the smart grid. Programs like this are exactly the kind of thing we had in mind.
