Opower to save consumers one terawatt hour of energy by 2012

Home energy management software company Opower says its software platform will save U.S. electricity customers one terawatt of power by the end of 2012 – the equivalent of disconnecting 100,000 homes from the electric grid for a full year. The company also says that its energy savings rate has been growing fast enough to keep those homes off the grid permanently at that time.

Opower just announced its Terawatt Hour savings goal by launching a new company Web site, opower.com, so regulators, utilities and consumers can follow the progress of its energy savings. Opower is now more than a third of the way to meeting its goal with savings of 380 million kilowatt hours of energy from more than 30 utility deployments.

Opower also announced a new report from The Brattle Group on best practices in measuring the impact of information-based energy management (IBEM) programs like Opower's. The Brattle Group, KEMA, academics and others have independently measured and verified Opower's measurement methods and program results.
