NRG Energy (which owns Reliant Energy) expects to introduce an all-you-can-eat electric vehicle charging plan in its Houston market early next year and then in Dallas at mid-year, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News. The flat-rate plan would cost customers somewhere in the $60 to $80 a month range for vehicle charging both at home and at charging stations around town, plus emergency charging. An NRG official said the goal is to make the cost of refueling EVs less than refueling gas-powered vehicles as a way to expand the market beyond environmental enthusiasts.

Quick Take: The EV industry– and the charging space in particular – is heating up now that we’re just months away from major EV rollouts from big U.S. car makers. We’re also seeing some new players jumping in. Schneider Electric and Parkeon just signed an agreement to develop an EV charging system. Check the links below for more developments on the EV front.
