Burlington Hydro, an Ontario, Canada-based power distribution utility, has embarked on a Smart Grid demonstration project to determine how well an all-EV commercial fleet will work out in practical, real-world conditions. Burlington Hydro will lead the project with support from partners Transport Canada and the University of Waterloo. The project also will study potential impact of EVs on the electric grid infrastructure, recharging systems, overall performance and efficiency, as well as cost-competitiveness.
Quick Take: This ambitious project involves a one-year study of literally every element that will need to be addressed as Ontario builds out a Smart Grid. It's good to see a demonstration project supported by such an array of government, industry and academic partners.
