The race for energy apps continues this week as Tendril, BMW and AT&T co-sponsor a 'hackathon' focusing on application development around the intersection of electric vehicles, mobility services, sustainability and the connected smart home.
The event, which runs through Sunday, is part of the BMW i Born Electric Tour showcasing the automaker's hybrid electric and fully electric concept cars.
“By teaming with Tendril and AT&T to open our collective technologies to joint third-party development, we’re ensuring that BMW i Brand vehicles and other products from BMW will seamlessly integrate to the grid and the home, while opening the doors to imaginative new mobile access and control applications," said Dirk Rossberg of BMW.
It's not the first collaboration between BMW and Boulder-based Tendril. Earlier this year the companies partnered on a smart home demonstration project in Mountain View, California that utilizes Tendril's cloud-based energy management platform, Tendril Connect. During the hackathon Tendril will open APIs of the Tendril Connect platform to developers to help them create apps that will help consumers understand the impact of their EVs and better integrate them into their homes and onto the grid.
“This event will showcase the future of consumer engagement—providing consumers with real-time energy information through cutting-edge applications at home, on the road or anywhere in between,” said Adrian Tuck, CEO of Tendril.
