Dec 3, 2009 - 1:47:47 PM

When the tiny rural Kansas plains town of Greenburg was flattened by a tornado in May of 2007, its residents promised to rebuild and transform it into a green and sustainable community. DOE is offering a free webinar on Tuesday, Dec.15, on how Greenburg is being rebuilt as a model green community.

Entitled "Greenburg, Kansas, and Beyond," the webinar will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m. EST. While it is free, advanced registration is required to obtain a URL for the presentation and a call-in phone number. The webinar is the second in a series on the community.

The presentation will feature:

·         A detailed view of Greenburg's built environment in a 100% renewable city, including tools, design strategies and successes.

·         Greenburg's approach to wind power, its successes in other rural communities and the impact of community wind in the country overall.

·         John Deere's plans for green dealership buildings throughout North America and its partnership with DOE and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on a Commercial Building Energy Alliance to curb energy use in retail buildings.

The intended audience is utilities, planning companies, residential and commercial builders, architects, renewable energy and energy efficiency associations, state energy offices and federal agencies.

Presenters will include:

·         Chuck Banks, Principal, Banks Association

·         David Jeffers, Manager, Retail Brand Experience, John Deere Corporation

·         Shanti Pless, Buildings Energy Efficiency Engineer, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
