DOE Spending $122M on Energy Efficient Buildings

A consortium of academic researchers, two national laboratories and the private sector will be funded by the Energy Department to develop technologies to make buildings more efficient. The group, led by Pennsylvania State University, will receive up to $122 million over the next five years to come up with energy-efficient building designs to save energy and reduce pollution. participants will research, develop and demonstrate more efficient building components, systems and models for both retrofits and new construction. The ongoing project will be based at the Philadelphia Navy Yard Clean Energy campus which has more than 200 buildings and an independent microgrid to test and validate the Smart Grid technologies developed there.
