As detailed by the DOE, the agreement also calls for:
· Increasing research collaboration to promote the transfer of new technologies to building owners and managers
· Ensuring the compatibility of building energy software
· Supporting education for building designers
· Implementing counter-terrorism design features in buildings
· Minimizing the impact of energy use on the environment
ASHRAE will provide online learning and hands-on training programs to help commercial building owners and managers meet or exceed standard 90.1, which is the current international energy efficiency standard for commercial buildings. DOE will push for an update to 90.1 that improves commercial building energy efficiency.
