. Electric power transmission research
The transmission system is the high-voltage part of the electric power infrastructure responsible for the bulk transfer of electricity from power plants to substations located near population centers. Once at the substation, the power is stepped down and transferred to the medium-voltage distribution system.

More importantly, this report from the Congressional Research Service gives a very thorough overview of electric power transmission in all its aspects, including planning, permitting, financing, technology and policy.
