The California Independent System Operator Corporation's Board of Governors have approved a 2011/2012 Transmission Plan that calls for 30 new transmission projects necessary to maintain grid reliability.

 

The approval follows a 15-month collaborative effort by the California ISO, the state's Energy Commission and the Public Utilities Commission to identify lowest cost options to maintain grid reliability. The ISO also said that transmission projects approved earlier will be enough to meet the state's aggressive renewable energy goal of getting 33% of its power from renewables by 2020. The analysis indicated that additional transmission for renewable energy could lead to overbuilding and stranded investments.

 

The approved projects will require investments of $691 million. ISO based its evaluations on three factors to determine if more transmission is necessary: maintain electric grid reliability, enable policy-driven resources (clean energy, for example) and relieve transmission bottlenecks to cut costs.

 

The California ISO manages the state's wholesale transmission grid.

where are these 30 projects and who will own them?

I was curious as to where the new projects would be and whether any one utility or IPP would own them?
