GE Smart Grid Acquisition Powers Up its Portfolio

.

With GE’s acquisition of SNC-Lavalin's Energy Control Systems (ECS) business, GE adds yet another Smart Grid solution to its portfolio. The ECS software improves power delivery efficiency and its continuous monitoring and analysis also helps identify potential power problems before they occur. That capability helps improve reliability in unavoidable outages from storm damage, traffic accidents and other causes. The ECS can reroute power around outages to minimize the number of affected customers, and also has the ability to determine the cause of the outage which allows utilities to dispatch properly equipped repair crews faster.

Quick Take: SNC-Lavalin is a well-respected international company that's been around for many, many years. We don't know the specifics behind the sale, but acquisition of the ECS business looks like a bonus for GE’s Smart Grid initiatives.
