Scroll down and on page 2 for a quick peek at six new products that do some of the heavy lifting in grid reliability – from a utility-scale inverter technology from Eaton to a bushing monitoring system for transformers released by GE.
Eaton launches utility-scale inverter technology
Eaton Corporation has introduced a new high-power inverter designed to provide a reliable, efficient energy storage link for wind and solar customers. The advanced utility-scale inverter technology is part of Eaton's new Series 6001 inverter, which the company says helps utilities reduce downtime and clear faults faster by staying on line during fault conditions. The Series 6001is rated for 500 kilowatt (kW), 1000 kW and 1500 kW applications. Get more details >>
GE Energy releases bushing monitoring system for transformers
GE says its Intellix BMT 300 bushing monitoring system for transformers can detect and diagnose problems before they occur, helping improve power reliability at utilities. "The Intellix BMT 300 targets the critical failure points on the bushings to avoid asset damages, or in some cases, avoid complete loss of the customer’s transformer," said Simon Phillips, a general manager for GE's digital energy business. The Intellix BMT 300 is available stand-alone or as part of a comprehensive solution integrated with other GE products to provide an in-depth view of transformer health. Following a trial phase with grid operators, Siemens has brought its new protection device it calls series Siprotec 5 on the market. With their modular-structure hardware and software, Siemens says the units are the first in the world to be specifically developed for protection, automation, measurement and monitoring in high-voltage power transmission systems. The main innovations, according to Siemens, include end-to-end engineering, individual configurability and safety mechanisms in all links of the safety chain. Get more details >>
