Report: Slow growth ahead for OMS market

Decreasing demand for stand-alone outage management systems (OMS) will result in only a moderate 3.8% growth in the OMS global market between now and 2020, according to “Outage Management Systems in Smart Grid - Markets Analysis, Vendor Landscape and Forecasts to 2016” from Research and Markets.

The report suggests the decreasing demand comes as the superiority of OMS integrated with other enterprise systems – for instance SCADA and GIS – becomes more prominent. The research company indicates the market will witness more of such situations, where an entire package is offered to the utility instead of a single OMS.

Besides SCADA and GIS, OMS can integrate with AMI systems, customer information systems, distribution management systems and meter data management systems, using  the information from the other systems to analyze outage events, calculate restoration times, manage the crews and provide reliable outage reports.
