The company will provide its e-terradistribution Integrated Distribution Management System (IDMS) for Maui Electric Company's (MECO) ongoing smart grid demonstration project.
The demo project will assess how smart grid technologies can help the utility cut peak demand, improve service quality, help customers make informed energy use decisions and integrate its growing renewable energy resources. Some of the technologies to be tested include advanced metering, home area networks and battery storage. The Alstom IDMS suite of smart distribution applications will bring together information from the smart grid network to enhance monitoring and control of the utility's distribution system and distributed energy resources.
"Hawaii has set an ambitious goal of generating more than 70% of its electricity from clean and renewable sources by the year 2030," said Karim El Naggar, VP of Alstom's Network Management Solutions business. "By deploying new distribution and home automation technologies, MECO will gain hands-in experience in maintaining grid reliability that is invaluable as the state transitions to a cleaner energy future."
And in Serbia...
Global IT solutions and information services provider Telvent will open its Smart Grid IT Competency Center in Novi Sad, Serbia with partner Schneider Electric. The Center is expected to employ over 1,000 engineering and software professionals responsible for developing future generations of Telvent's advanced distribution management system (ADMS), which the company says is part of the most powerful integrated distribution automation solution on the market.
The Center will focus on developing seamless integration of ADMS with other smart grid IT and hardware components. The yield for utilities will be a complete solution incorporated with Schneider Electric's network equipment and its substation automation systems, relay protection, demand response, energy storage and electric vehicle program. The project team also will speed up the migration of Telvent's ADMS subsystems to the cloud.
The Center is a multi-year investment for Telvent and Schneider Electric. And, in a strategic move to enhance the partnership, it will be located near the University of Novi Sad and the Technology Park of the Technical Sciences Faculty – which will provide additional talent and capacity for the project. 1 You might also be interested in ...
