Asset monitoring services from S&C target critical grid equipment
S&C Electric is offering new asset management services it says will be of value to renewable energy plants as well as large power users and electric utilities that own and operate transmission and distribution systems. S&C uses pre-installed sensors to gather real-time condition information on critical equipment, and monitors this equipment 24 hours a day. In the event conditions fall outside normal parameters, an alert is sent to the technical experts on duty at its support and monitoring center, who will then work with the asset owner to resolve the issue.
"In today’s increasingly connected world, electric service reliability is paramount. It drives our economy and our quality of life," notes Wanda Reder, S&C VP of Power Systems Services. "Problems with critical grid assets can result in prolonged outages. S&C’s new monitoring services can help our customers identify and rapidly address issues with major equipment that otherwise could lead to costly service disruptions – along with expensive equipment repairs – if they are not addressed proactively." CUE platform connects commercial HVAC to grid to manage costs
Clean Urban Energy (CUE) announced the next generation of its smart grid technology platform that connects HVAC operations in commercial buildings with electric grid operations to take advantage of energy market opportunities. CUE says the latest version offers building operators greater visibility to better manage costs. With new comfort and ventilation features, CUE says buildings will have greater demand flexibility, creating more opportunity to shift electric load and reduce costs. Read more >>
AT&T and Acclaim Energy offer power metering service to businesses
Announced earlier this month, AT&T has teamed with Acclaim Energy to offer a new service to business customers they say can reduce their utility costs while protecting sensitive equipment from power surges and helping restore reliability to the power grid. According to the companies, the idea is to utilize smart grid technology to provide low cost, intelligent power metering and control systems that enable remote monitoring and switching of loads from the grid to standby generators within seconds. .
"Although grid challenges are growing nationwide, we’re introducing this service first in Texas due to its acute electricity generation problems and potential reliability issues in 2012 and beyond," said John Elder, Acclaim Energy Advisors CEO. "Together with AT&T, we can assist organizations that want to manage energy smartly, generate income and help avert costly grid failures that impact economic growth and quality of life for residents."
