1 Power and automation technology group ABB has agreed to acquire Georgia-based business intelligence provider Obvient Strategies, Inc., a strategy that will additionally enhance its software offering for asset management, power distribution and smart grid applications. Obvient's business intelligence software collects, analyzes and reports real-time and periodic information for industries and utilities with geographically dispersed assets. ABB intends to keep the Obvient team on board and assign its execs to key roles in the Ventyx product management organization. With the Obvient acquisition, ABB continues its aggressive smart grid expansion with another back office/business intelligence acquisition. Who would have thought a few years back that ABB would be challenging Oracle?
