If you've been following the drama in Marin County and other parts of PG&E's California service territory it may come as no surprise that the Marin County Board of Supervisors voted this week to ban smart meter installations in unincorporated parts of the county for a year, citing concerns about potential health risks from the devices. Supervisors in Santa Cruz County took similar action in September. But as the San Francisco Chronicle points out, the smart meter moratorium is largely symbolic. A decision to stop smart meter installations must come from the California Public Utility Commission, which so far has rejected similar calls. And it appears PG&E has no plans to stop installing them. Better consumer education is obviously necessary, as we've said many times. But what does that look like? What do you think will work?
