"Nuclear can work"? Look at the statistics: It's the most expensive form of power generation per watt, takes the longest to deploy, and has the most catastrophic failure conditions. It cannot be privately financed nor insured (credit ratings of anyone that invests in it go down significantly). Unlike all other forms of generation the cost per generated watt has gone *up* over the last three decades (while wind, solar and especially storage and conservation have gone drastically *down*...).

Then a third of the North American nuclear labour force is retiring in the next few years, to be replaced by... no one! No one knows how to run the existing plants and there are no engineers coming out of schools to build new ones! Very dangerous.

All promotion of "investment" in nuclear fission plants of current design is plain commercial fraud. Anyone suggesting more nuclear plants should be built has some kind of vested interest in promoting waste and keeping intelligent devices out of homes.

Even if you buy into the "baseload" ideology, it's easier to provide a baseload it with networks of widely distributed wind and solar and storage devices (oh say electric car batteries?) than with one or two big sources that blow up or go offline by surprise. Distributed systems math 101, folks: Reliability is achieved by many unreliable things networked together better than by one or two very reliable things connected in a broadcast topology.

Dynamic pricing is inevitable because any fixed time pricing leads directly to a new peak: Set the lower price at 10PM and you get a new peak at 10PM. Remember when long distance phone calling got suddenly cheap at 11PM? You could not get a line out of town at that time. The equivalent in the power grid would be a brownout every night!

Unless we want utilities to own all the appliances and replace them with efficient ones all at once, and pay for the services (light, heat, refrigeration, etc.) not the devices, we are going to have dynamic pricing and smart devices. And we are not going to see any more nuclear plants built - nowhere in North America.
