1 Quick Take: Finally, citizens and business are beginning to demand smarter energy. They realize we need it to stay globally competitive. Now we just have to be sure that smart grid is part of the conversation. It seems largely missing in the messaging and the companies involved. - By Jesse Berst
"It's time to look at energy innovation as a necessity for America, not an option," said Tom Steyer, an AEE founder and co-managing partner of Farallon Capital Management. The coalition does not single out single specific technologies to support. It is, as AEE says, "inclusive in nature" and technologies are judged by the benefits they provide "in the field and in the marketplace."
Technologies AEE has identified as advanced energy include electric and plug-in EVs, energy efficient buildings, more efficient industrial processes and the most current wind, solar and nuclear technologies, and more. The organization says those technologies make up the next innovation-based industry and that the U.S. is the best candidate to drive development and reap the benefits.
AEE says its membership now includes over 700 companies in nine states and that the number is expected to double by early next year.
