Sales have grown at a rate of 9% and order intake is up 15% in the second quarter. Eric Spiegel, Siemens president and CEO, said the company has added over 1,000 new jobs to its U.S. workforce in the last two quarters alone to keep up with demand. Hundreds more jobs will be added over the next few years.
Most of the smart grid jobs Siemens wants to fill require expertise in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, project management and software development to work in fields such as business development, EV infrastructure, meter data management and power systems design. Considerable growth also has occurred in the company's products and solutions in power generation, metering, monitoring, voltage regulation, smart buildings and more.
Its Building Technologies division is experiencing growth in orders to retrofit and upgrade buildings with energy efficient and automation solutions. Siemens has developed a training program to enhance training for recently hired technicians and get them into the field faster.
