On-Ramp Wireless will take its AMI solution to South Korea

On-Ramp Wireless has signed on to deploy its AMI solution for South Korean smart metering company Fountain Springs in collaboration with Korea Telecom, an integrated telecommunications services provider. The addition of On-Ramp's Ultra-Link Processingâ„¢ (ULP) wireless networking platform for utility automation will enable South Korea's smart grid initiative to boost energy efficiency, cut costs and speed up deployment of its smart grid applications.

"On-Ramp's ULP solution provides enhanced coverage and capacity compared with existing PLC and mesh AMI solutions," said Dr. CS Hwang, Fountain Springs CEO. "By deploying the ULP solution, we are able to provide a robust, high capacity integrated wireless communication system, truly changing the way electricity is managed and consumed in Korea."

South Korea's ambitious smart grid initiative grew from a recognition of the need for more energy security and sustained economic growth as well as a need to reduce environmental impact. The country's government wants to achieve a complete transformation in how electricity is created, distributed and used.

On-Ramp's ULP wireless communication technology combined with Fountain Springs' AMI solution, advanced data analytics and meter data management capabilities will give utilities a better grasp on managing power use at all end points in the distribution network. A completely integrated ULP network will support thousands of meters at each access point in typically tough urban RF environments.
