1 Quick Take: We've said before that the UK could become a template for much of Europe. That makes winning the battle to be a preferred provider in the UK even more important in smart metering's global chess match. Sensus has been focused on this battle for a while and is beginning to make headway. The victory reported below builds off one of the key Sensus success secrets – its private network and the capabilities it provides.- By Jesse Berst
Manufacturers EDMI, EM-Lite, Itron, Onstream and Secure Meters supply most of the smart meters deployed in the UK market, and their willingness to incorporate FlexNet communications technology acknowledges its suitability for Britain's smart meter and smart grid initiatives, Sensus said in a press release. FlexNet's long-range, dedicated and secure radio technology provides communications to meters in locations that otherwise would not be accessible.
"We are delighted to be working with these leading manufacturers, which demonstrates growing support for the principles of a dedicated utility communications network capable of delivering universal connectivity. This ensures energy suppliers have a choice of network solutions as they undertake trials and deployments," said Adrian Flewitt, Sensus UK technical director.
