EV fleet market: Steady, strong growth expected over the next five years

While hybrid EV consumer markets get most of the attention, it looks like the global commercial EV fleet market will grow respectably over the next five years, too. In its new report, Hybrid Electric Vehicles for Fleet Markets, Pike Research says the market for hybrid electric passenger cars and light-duty trucks will grow at an 18% rate, a number that translates into sales of over 740,000 fleet rigs in 2015. While hybrids will take almost 4% of global light-duty vehicle sales in 2015, U.S. sales are expected to hit 7.4%. The report tackles a fairly broad spectrum of topics, including what light-duty hybrids are coming, key hybrid technologies, determining cost effectiveness, government emissions regulations and more. It specifically looks at the opportunities and challenges for light-duty hybrid electrics, plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles.

Quick Take: Managers of big commercial and government fleets are realizing that hybrids are a cost-effective way to deal with rising fuel prices and to cut emissions. And as we've said before, a little green branding doesn't hurt.
