1. Utilities are moving their focus from installation to optimization. And to better optimize the system, they are looking at the distribution side of the business.
2. Organizational issues are coming to the fore. As Paul puts it, "if the system changes, the organization has to change with it." One forcing function, he says, is the need for many different departments to access the same or similar information. This forces them to collaborate. Another key issue: resource reallocation and retraining to get people into new areas with needed skills.
