In addition to new utility clients in the U.S., Opower has expanded into Canada through its partnership with Nova Scotia Power. , The newly signed utilities are located in Illinois, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, New York and Massachusetts. Just last month, the company partnered with the UK's largest independent energy company, First Utility.
"We are pleased that utilities across the globe seeking a proven and scalable customer engagement platform are turning to Opower as their energy information solutions provider," said Dan Yates, Opower CEO. "We look forward to supporting the efforts of our new utility partners and those that are expanding their programs, and to delivering the tools they need to help their customers make smarter decisions about energy use."
All that said, we can't help but wonder: Considering that the home energy management market is often characterized as struggling, overcrowded and underfunded, could it be that Opower's success is an indicator that the market is showing signs of change for the better? Or could it be that utilities are simply more committed to customer engagement – or a combination of both?
